Nonprofit organization · Fajara, The Gambia

Small strides, lasting change.

Strides Foundation works alongside families in The Gambia to build a future with dignity and self-reliance, through education, farming, skills, and care for the environment.

Who we are

A foundation built on five years of hands-on work.

Strides Foundation began around 2020 as a small integrated farm in The Gambia, bringing animal husbandry, fish farming, and vegetable growing together in one working system. In April 2026, that work became a registered nonprofit organization, so it could reach further: training more farmers, supporting more families, and extending the same hands-on approach to children through education and gardening. We're new as a registered organization. The work itself has been going on for years.

What we focus on

Four areas, chosen on purpose.

01

Education

Support for less privileged students, and hands-on learning for children and youth.

02

Farming & food

Modern, environmentally friendly farming so families can grow food and earn.

03

Women & youth

Skills training and small business support, with women and youth at the centre.

04

Environment

Composting, reuse, and green projects that care for the land we share.

The programme we run

Smiling Seedlings Kids Urban Garden

A children's garden programme we deliver with the generous support of a partner foundation. We design the weekly lessons and lead the classes, where children learn to grow food, care for the environment, and work together in a garden built from reused tyres.

Pilot programme

The Strides Bridge Programme

Six weeks of one-to-one tutoring, built around each child's own learning gaps, so they start the school year ready and confident. We have identified our first children, our tutors are preparing, and this first pilot cycle is now under way.

Where we are today

Built on experience, ready to grow.

Five years of running a working farm taught us what actually helps a family or a child move forward. Now, as a registered foundation, we're bringing that same practical approach to more people, and we welcome partners, volunteers, and supporters who want to build something steady with us.
